WHAT IS A VISITOR’S VISA?

A Visitor’s Visa is a short term visa that is issued to individuals who intend to reside in South Africa for periods not exceeding three months at a time. There are, however, certain types of Visitor’s visas that are issued for periods of up to 4 years at a time.

CAN A VISITOR’S VISA AUTHORISE THE HOLDER TO WORK?

There are three types of visitor’s visas that may allow the holder to conduct work in specific circumstances:

• One may be authorised to conduct work for periods of less than three months on a short terms employment contract.
• Applications may be made for a visa that will allow the holder to engage in charitable activities for periods of up to 3 years.

• A spouse of a South African citizen or permanent resident may also be issued with a visitor’s visa for periods of up to 4 years at a time in order to accompany their South African spouses in South Africa and be authorised to conduct work or business for the duration of the validity of the Visa.
