WHAT DOES A RETIRED PERSON VISA COVER?

A retired person visa may be issued to a foreigner who intends to retire in South Africa.

HOW WOULD A FOREIGNER QUALIFY FOR A RETIRED PERSON VISA?

The applicant would need to provide proof that they receive a minimum of R37 000 per month from a pension or retirement annuity account; or that they have a prescribed net worth that realises R37 000 per month.

HOW LONG IS A RETIRED PERSON VISA ISSUED FOR?

The retired person visa can be issued for a maximum period of 4 years at a time and can be renewed one or more times.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR FOREIGNERS WANTING TO APPLY FOR THE RETIREMENT VISA?

No, there is no set age limit. There have however been cases where the Department has rejected such applications when the applicants have been relatively young. As there is no specific age limit mentioned in neither the Immigration Act nor the Regulations, it is believed that such rejections are unfounded and baseless.
